The 1997 NCKCC Concours: bigger & better than ever!

The photographs for this photo feature were shot by Vern Hance
of the NCKCC, and by Curt Scott. Enjoy and savor!

Club member Ann Landers' Daytona Spyder reproduction always draws crowds at the NCKCC bash.

...Cobras, Cobras everywhere...
(we counted a total of 24 at the show)

Joel Heinke's (Castro Valley, California) Guardsman Blue CRL Cobra.

This recently-completed FFR Cobra belongs to Mike & Valerie Senior of Mission Viejo.

VSE Cobra Replicas was there displaying two of the firm's ultra-rigid aluminum backbone chassis; this masterstroke shows off their (Thunderbird) IRS setup. You gotta look under the skin to appreciate why some folks don't hesitate to pay a little extra for this kind of quality engineering.

NCKCC member Bob Bohaboy's CRL Marlene was one of the best-executed replicars at the show. His work is a splendid example of component car craftsmanship.

Mike McBride's Sterling, captured against a typically dramatic
early-morning Bay-area sky...

Enviro-Tech's Ken Levine and Danny Kowalsky (Walnut Creek, California, 510-746-4947) were there showing off their "DriWash" cleaner, popular among carshow exhibitors, since it enables them to keep their car sparkling clean and protected without the usual bucket of soapy water and drying towels.

Lynn Reed's 390 Ford-powered 1935 Auburn Speedster replica.

Mike Kirchen (South San Francisco) displayed his flare-fendered Porsche 356 Speedster replica.

Butch Holberg's (Alameda, California) English Ford van. Butch has owned this Van since 1964. He purchased it at auction from the "Chicken Delight" restaurant chain when the popular home-delivery chicken cookers went (pardon the pun) belly-up. Propulsion is Chevy 327" V8. This crowd-pleaser took President's Choice, Show Chairman's Choice AND Best Paint!

Craig Whatley (San Rafael, California) beside his rare Thunderbird station wagon, a 1962 Ford "ThunderCruiser." Actually, it's a hybrid custom; the top is courtesy of a 1965 Oldsmobile Vistacruiser. Craig walked away with the well-deserved "Most Unique" trophy.

The black #21 Contemporary Cobra belongs to Lewis Downs of Castro Valley, California. You've seen his car before... his (Carroll Shelby autographed) dashboard is featured on the cover of the latest "Complete Guide to Cobra Replicas." .The equally spectacular blue/white stripes Contemporary Cobra belongs to Tom Piana of Mountain View. Tom's Cobra deservedly garnered 1st Place in category "Cobra Class"
.

Brian Le's (San Jose, California) Brazilian-built Lafer MG-TD replica. It took 3rd Place in category "Classics Under $10k"

.

This red Ferrari F40 replica belongs to Claude & Vera Calderon of Clovis, California.

.
.

Cecil Houston's (Buena Park, California) yellow Ferrari Testarossa replica. It took 2nd Place in category "Sports $10k to $20k"

Over 70 club members and other showgoers attended the ritual Saturday-night dinner, prize giveaways and festivities at the adjacent El Torito restaurant.

The NCKCC wishes to thank all of those who entered their cars this year. We had a total of 70 replicars and vintage originals entered in the show (plus many more parked in the adjacent parking lot). The quality of these vehicles reflected the devotion and labor put into these vehicles by their builders and restorers.

As with all motorcar club events, the success of the occasion is greatly enhanced by participation of club members... including members of other motorcar clubs. Both the AHA (Association of Handcrafted Automobiles) of southern California and the OHAA (Oregon Handcrafted Automobile Association) were amply represented, and helped once again to render the NCKCC show a resounding success and great fun for all involved.

This year (1997) a substantial percentage of the attendees reported that they learned of the NCKCC show right here on KitCar.com and CobraCountry.com and StreetRodCountry.com!
