2001

Only five Knott-ical miles northwest of Disneyland!
28 & 29 April, 2001

Above: The Dynamic Duo of Replicars Past and Present! On the left is Ted Trevor,
who in the 1960s first shoehorned a Chevy V8 into a Corvair. Later his company,
Crown Manufacturing, specialized in engine adapter equipment, including engine-to-
transaxle adapter setups as well as specially-engineered gears for VW transaxles.
On the right is the irrepressible Chuck Beck, a legend in his own lifetime.

On your left: Luciano Sarma's Jag XKE has stolen the spotlight at several carshows. The photo is hotlinked to a closeup of the engine.

This is a Porsche 917 replica (just like the one Steve McQueen piloted in the movie "LeMans"). It was manufactured by Elite Enterprises in 1974.

DuoPower was there displaying their marvelous aerodynamic body package for late-moldel Volkswagen Beetles. This was a certified show-stopper!

Lone Star's new $8500 VW-based (or, if your prefer, Mazda 13B rotary- or Ford-based) exoticar. It was their prototype on display; you see, they lamented that all of their current production is on its way to customers.

Jim Michaud's Best of Show, which started out as a D&R exoticar. This is a certified masterpiece of craftsmanship.

The photo at right is hotlinked to a view of the interior.

Dave Okamoto (Kunio Productions) was there with his marvelous "rolling studio."

Dave is renowned for his work turning photographic images into splendid motorcar artwork, which he prints out on his wide-format printer, then trims and frames.

At carshows he photographs your car himself with his top-of-the-line Canon digital camera, performs all the editing and compositing, and has your framed piece ready for you before you leave the show. Good stuff!

"The Mullen" was a crowd favorite, eye-appealing and a tip-o-the-hat to performance enthusiasts... outfitted with a Ford V6.

Vintage Speedsters and Vintage Spyders were there with their sports machines.

The photo at left is hotlinked to an alternate image (the 550 cockpit).

Dave Anders' Morgan 3-wheeler. A beauty in every respect. Can you discern that I'm kinda partial to 3-wheelers?

PISA Corp's "Jalapeño," based on a Fiero platform and designed for whooping it up in high (or at least elevated) style. That's PISA's Dan Campbell at the far left.

But, um, Dan, we gotta look up the code (and the penalty) for straddling your car over TWO handicapped spaces...

This year the AHA's KBF show was out-of-the-ordinary in one key respect: cool weather, overcast sky... and thus splendid photography weather! As a result, you'll find this to be the largest/most extensive show article I've ever done! There are five coverage pages (this main page, the Cobra coverage page, the Awards-Presentations page, the A.H.A. Dinner Page, and the Bob Evans/Phil Remington Dinner Page. In my humble opinion, this was far and away the best KBF show ever... at least since 1982, when I first attended an AHA/KBF show.

Again you've been provided with hot links to the Web page on kitcar.com or cobracountry.com where you'll uncover more information about that company, car, product or service! Note that each hotlink (both for the Hi-Rez photos and the URLs) will open up a new, temporary window for you to check out, while your AHA/Knott's article remains open; this significantly speeds up your using these links.

Clearly one of the crowd favorites at the show was this spectacular Sebring MX (Austin Healey 3000 replica), a work of art by Rich Rauh of Lake Forest, California. Power is an EFI Corvette LT-1 V8. Rich received the AHA's "1st Place--Late Sports Roadster trophy." Photo at right is hotlinked to a view of this drivin' machine's world-class cockpit.

This was one of the nicest Bradleys (a GT II) that we've seen in a long time. It took a trophy at the show, although we'll hafta provide you with the details at a later date...

Ed Russell's replica of a BMW 3-wheeler was a hit with showgoers! There just aren't enough 3-wheelers around to please enthusiasts.

Buddy Wymore's 1952 Glasspar. Yet another trophy winner.
